George Gaines was born after 1784, in Sittingbourne Parish, Old Rappahannock (modern day Richmond) County, Virginia son of Bernard Gaines and Martha Taylor. George was named for his his maternal grandfather, George, Taylor, who wrote his Will on June 24, 1706, and it was proven August 7, 1706. George Taylor named Martha in his Will and her youngest son, George Gaines, his namesake. [1]
George married Elinore Brown and had:
Bernard, m. Elizabeth Ward, d. 1753 in Cumberland Co., VA
Margaret, m. John H. Pryor
George Gaines' Will dated 28 Apr 1726 was proved in Richmond Co., VA on 01 Jun 1726 (Will book 5, page 12) and mentioned his brother Daniel, his son Bernard, his daughter Margaret, and his wife Elinor(e). His son Bernard was not of age at the writing of the will. [2]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with George by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with George:
I do not believe George Gaines' mother was Martha Taylor (1670-1726. She never married Bernard Gaines until 1693, and Martha would have been only about 14 when George was born in 1684. I believe Bernard Gaines was previously married, and his first wife died before 1693. I have a name, Elizabeth Jameson (1656-1693), but I have not found any documentation of her or their marriage other than she is listed on several trees on Ancestry.com and Geneanet.com.
