Biography

Edmund was a son of Edmund Gale of Cambridge[1]. His mother is not noted in these sources.

Before 1666, he married Sarah Dixey, the daughter of William and Ann (or Hannah) Dixey of Salem, Massachusetts[2] [1] [3]

Named in his father-in-law's will ...to son-in-law Edmund Gale "my musket"; earlier in Dec 1681 William Dixie granted 2 acres land in Beverly. GM Vol 1.

Their oldest children were born in Salem, and the family moved to Beverly around April 1672[1], where the youngest children were born[4] [5]

  1. Samuel, baptized March 12, 1666[4]
  2. Sarah, baptized March 12, 1666[4]
  3. Edmond, baptized Feb 14, 1667[6]
  4. Azor, baptized Apr. 25, 1669[6], who married Mary Roots, of Boston [1]
  5. Miriam, baptized Dec. 31, 1671[4]
  6. Abraham, baptized Feb. 22, 1673-4[5]
  7. Anna, baptized July 17, 1676[5]
  8. William, baptized Feb. 16, 1678-9[5]
  9. Charity, baptized 23 October, 1683[5]
  10. Mary, baptized Mar. 7, 1685-6[5], who married James Chapman [1]

Edmund died before March 10, 1717—18, when "Sarah, of Beverly, widow of Edmond Gale," sold land to Azor Gale [1]. The Beverly records show "Mr Gale" died between November 1717 and March 16, 1718[7]
