Research Notes

References

The book used as a source for the information contained within this profile The genealogy of the Scott and Galloway families by Ruth Hendricks De Verter and published in 1959 appears to be a family account of the family history. Certainly with regards to Samuel Galloway, his wife and children there are no additional sources given to evidence where or when they were born, were married and passed away. The book should therefore be regarded as "an unsourced book of family history needing verification from primary sources".

Having searched ScotlandsPeople extensively for the family, no records have been found for a Samuel Galloway (using wildcards to pick up variant spellings) and his family. There is no birth record, no marriage record and there are no records for his children. Searches were initially done in the Wigtownshire area as suggested by the profile and then extended to cover all of Scotland.

There is also no record of the "parents" attached to Samuel having been married or having children. That is not to say it didnt happen just that no records have been found on ScotlandsPeople to evidence this.

Name

A suffix of Junior was originally given on this profile. It is very rare for a numbered suffix or for senior, junior identifiers to be used by people in Scotland. With the lack of evedentiary sources to prove that Samuel did use such a suffix during the course of his lifetime the suffix has been removed.

Death

There is a Find a Grave record for Samuel Galloway which has an exact date of birth of 8 October 1682 and a death of 1723 however the entry states the burial details are unknown. There is nothing on this entry to suggest where this information came from. The record needs to be corroborated with primary sources[2].

Children

The evidence that is contained on this profile for the children is only the "Unsourced Family History Book" which needs corroboration by Primary Sources. However thus far no Primary Sources have been identified. There is no record of a birth for any of the children in ScotlandsPeople.

As a result of this the Category "Scotland, Needs Profiles Created" has been removed as no primary source can currently be used to evidence those children's existence.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Samuel by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Samuel:

Galloway-2930 and Galloway-410 appear to represent the same person because: dates and locations of birth and death are the same. Galloway-2930 with parents linked is unsourced.
