Biography

Benjamin was a son of John and Elizabeth (Harris) Gallup. He was baptized at Stonington, New London, Connecticut Colony, on 1 November 1696, according to the cited Gallup genealogy. [1] However, the source does not name the church & his birth is not recorded in the Barbour Collection of Stonington vital records.[2]

He married, as her first husband, Theoda "Theody" Parke, daughter of William and Jane (Borden) Park/Parke at Voluntown, Connecticut, on 22 May 1735.[3] In the cited Gallup genealogy, they are recorded as the parents of four children (not six): Mary, Benjamin II, Uzziel and John Gallup[4] The William & Joseph that are attached as their children are not mentioned, nor are they recorded in Voluntown vitals. Only Uzziel is found these vital records.[3]

In 1736 Benjamin Gallup was admitted as an inhabitant of Voluntown. He was made a freeman on 8 April 1740. [1]

After his death Theoda "Theody" married Daniel Brown on 22 Mar 1759/60. [citation needed]

The death date here of 1747, at Voluntown, is not supported by documentation, so the status indicators have been changed.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Benjamin by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Benjamin:

Wikitree Community,

Rather than provide an answer to my previous comment, Patricia Kent, removed herself as a profile manager & archived my comment. I've unarchived this comment & will be leaving a note on her profile page requesting she not archive my comments in the future & to ask her for an explanation, not just about her behavior to my edits of July 6th, but this archiving behavior as well.

Hello Patricia,

I made edits to Benjamin's profile last night & this morning I've noted that you have deleted many of them with the simple reason, "Bio Improvement". How did you improve the "Bio"?

You deleted the statement that his birth is not recorded in the Barbour Collection & that the cited genealogy, which was published in 1893, does not mention what church he was baptized in. This statement was factually correct. In deleting that note, you also deleted the beginning of the reference tag, including the title of the source, which has crippled the reference tag & isn't being seen on the profile page.

You also deleted the "citation needed" template after the supposed marriage of Theoda to Daniel Brown. There is no source supporting this marriage, so the template is appropriate. And you just completely deleted the statement that his 1747 death at Voluntown is not supported by documentation. This is not "Bio Improvement", as I understand the phrase?

I'm putting back my edits & I'm now asking for primary source documents (published vital records; church records; probate records; deeds; court cases; town records....etc) that support his 1747 death at Voluntown; his baptism at Stonington; the addition of Joseph & William as children; and this marriage of Theoda to Daniel Brown. Please: no Ancestry family trees, no Ancestry Millennium Files, no Ancestry Family Data Collection, no MyHeritage family trees.

Thank you in advance for posting these primary sources.
