Biography

1776 Project
Brittain Gandy Sr served with North Carolina during the American Revolution.

Served in Somer's Regiment in the Revolutionary war. Had brothers named Ephraim and Edward.

The name of Britton's first wife, the mother of two sons (Brittain2 and John), is not known. His second wife was the widow of Thomas Holland, Mary [Ross] Holland, who bore Brittain a posthumous son named Edward. This Edward is believed to be Edward Gandy who married Mary Thurman, sold his property in Nash County in 1805, and moved to Gandy's Cove in Morgan County, AL (formerly Cataco County) ca. 1815, He is also thought to be the Edward Gandy who served in the War of 1812 from that area.

Britton Gandy was born 1736 in Edgecombe, Edgecombe, North Carolina.[citation needed]

Britton Gandy died in 1783 in Nash, North Carolina, USA.[citation needed]

Planter in Nash, North Carolina in 1782.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Brittain by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Brittain:

Gandy-362 and Gandy-231 do not represent the same person because: Britton Gandy's mother was Sarah Britton Gandy who married Edward Gandy in Devon, England, at Stoke Demeral Parish in 1712.

Gandy-362 and Gandy-231 appear to represent the same person because: These are the same in all respects except DOB (off by exactly 10 years). Brother Ephraim is a duplicate too.
