DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Martin by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Martin:

I've taken the liberty of removing the erroneous middle initial 'M' from this profile, which was evidently based on a misunderstanding of Martin signing his will with his initial ('M').
Gardner-229 and Gardner-156 appear to represent the same person because: Same man. Same will, although one is abbreviated. Both wills were proved on the same date and in the same county. Plus the will talks about exactly the same children. Please merge. Thank you.
Please note that the following source uses the word "Grocer" as Martin's occupation. It is not his last name.

From York County, Virginia Records, 1665-1672, page 34: Page 72. MARTIN GARDINER of City of London, Grocer, now extant in Va., appoints William Plumtree his attorney to conduct his affairs, and if GARDINER dies before arrival in England, he is to handle affairs there also. 4 May 1665 [sic]. Signed: MARTIN GARDNER. Witnesses: Margarett Oxen, Mi Chafe. Recorded 31 Jan. 1665/66 [sic].

It seems clear to me that while the wills "Quoted" in each profile vary to some degree in the texts, the content of the texts themselves does not vary in any significant way. The "text" quoted in Gardner-229 seems to be an abstract of the Will in Gardner-156, which would seem to be a very exact quote out of the actual Will, and the official record of the will quoted in Gardner-156 seems to me to be a much more accurate primary source than the "MyHeritage.com" listed as the source in Gardner-229.

This merge needs to be looked at by all concerned, and then made, so we can attack the profile of "Martin Gardner Grocer", and get that profile corrected and merged with another whose manager is being difficult.

This profile contains a number of serious errors that need to be corrected: 1) his last name is not "Grocer"; it is GARDNER. The Grocer is his occupation, and was listed on a document after he came to Virginia as a matter of identification by a later genealogist; 2) he did not die in Bertie County, NC in 1760. He died sometime in the late 17th century or so in Virginia. A later genealogist has confused this information with that of his son Martin Gardner, Jr., who did die in Bertie County, North Carolina in 1760.

The information presented at the referenced source website appears to contain composited information of three different individuals. The "title" Martin Gardner of Middlesex County is listed as dying in 1715; Martin Gardner of Williamsburg, Virginia died in 1693 - without issue; and the Martin Gardner of Bertie County, North Carolina died between 1755 and 1760.
