Albert Pearson was born in 1882. He was the son of Rebecca and Georg Gardner[1] He passed away in 1916 age 34[2]
Albert Pearson Gardner (Service number WWI 23/1637 ) served in the NZ Army during World War 1. He was a Lance Corporal in the Canterbury Infantry Regiment , He gave his next of kin as Miss Fanny Gardner (sister), of Masterton, New Zealand A sawmill hand in civilian life, he enlisted 19 October 1915 . He embarked 8 January 1916 aboard HMNZT 38 or HMNZT 39 the vessels Tahiti or Warrimoo A to Suez, Egypt . He was a Rifleman with the 3rd Reinforcements, 1st Battalion, E Company of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade He died of wounds, 22 September 1916 during the Battle of the Somme His name appears on the Caterpillar Valley (New Zealand) Memorial, at Caterpillar Valley Cemetery, in Longueval, Somme, France [3]
