The date/place of birth and parents of James Gardner are not known. A possible DOB could be 16 May 1644 in Gloucester, but no evidence for this date has been found. James was the second husband of Mary Elwell.[1][2]
James married first to Elizabeth Vinson, daughter of William Vinson, on 19 Jun 1661 in Gloucester, Massachusetts.[3] James and Elizabeth had the following children:[2]
Sarah, b.16 Apr 1662, d.21 Apr 1662;
James, b/d.5 Oct 1663;
George, b.22 May 1664, d.bef. 1683;
Elizabeth, b/d.11 Jun 1666;
Sarah, b.17 Apr 1668 m.Robert Elwell 1687;
Mary, b.13 Sep 1671, d.25 Oct 1671;
Joseph, b.23 Oct 1672, m.Hannah Elwell 1695;
Rebecca, b.15 Sep 1675;
John, b.11 Jan 1678, m. Miriam Samson 1704;
James, b.27 Aug 1681, m.Abigail ___ 1707.
James married second to Mary Elwell[1] shortly before he died.[2] There is some confusion over their marriage date as Gloucester Vital Records has James dying on 8 Dec 1684 and their marriage on 16 Dec 1684.[3] Rev. Thomas Elwell doesn't mention this marriage at all in his work[4] and Anderson only mentions the 16 Dec 1684 marriage date.[1]
James date of death is recorded as 8 Dec 1684 in Gloucester MA,[3] but it is thought that he died after that date. His will was proved 31 Mar 1685 in Essex County, Massachusetts.[5] James had made his will on 23 Jan 1683 and named his first wife as executor, but since she was deceased, the court named Jeffrey Parsons as executor until his eldest son came of age.[2]

Gardner-1468 and Gardner-3588 appear to represent the same person because: I believe these are duplicates. Same DOB (unknown) and DOD (Dec 1684) and 1st wife (E. Vinson).
Gardner-4228 and Gardner-3588 are not ready to be merged because: Birth dates and children do not agree. They are an obvious match but require some clarifying research.
Thank you.
