In 1784 Ann Gardner for five years prior had cared for [orphan] Jimmie James Harrell, son of John Harrell [Harrell-2827] of Bertie Co. who d.1777. In 1783 John Gardner was appointed his guardian and in the 1792 settlement of John Gardner's estate "Jimmy James Harrell" was due £20.4.0. Jimmie was second in line to own the Harrell plantation, if older brother John, also underage in 1777, died; but he lived.
[Ann Harrell, John’s widow, was to have administration of the estate during her lifetime and a third of the land was laid off for her (her dower). She is not named in the 1784 settlement so presumed dead. But, could she have married John Gardner as his second wife?]
