Biography

Matilda was a Friend (Quaker)

Matilda was the daughter of Isaac Gardner and Eunice Macy. She married William Barnard in 1805. They raised a family of 13 children and moved from North Carolina to Union County and later Fayette County, Indiana, according to Hazzard's History of Henry County, Indiana.[1]

During 1810, when the census was taken, the family lived in Deep River, Stokes County, North Carolina.[2] The Census for 1820 shows two by the name of William Barnard in Union, Franklin County, Indiana, both having 10 people in the household. Union was later known as Wgutcinbm Brookville Township, Franklin County, Indiana.[3] They were in Union County by 1830.[4] About 1835 they moved to Fayette County, Indiana and lived in Jackson Township when the 1840 census was enumerated.[5]

Matilda died in 1845 and is buried in the Popular Ridge Cemetery, Everton, Fayette, Indiana but no marker has been found.[6]
