Biography

According to the New York Times Sept 3, 1911, Daniel E. Garrison Jr. age 44 while staying at the Waldorf with his father and son of same name committed suicide while being despondent over his health. His home was on Cabanne Ave. in St. Louis, but he had closed it up when his son went off to school. Son Daniel 3rd had been on break from school in Laurenceville where he was preparing for Yale. At the time of his death Daniel was engaged to Miss Mary Williams who he had met the year before on the steamer coming back from Europe where he had been staying for his hay fever. He was exceptionally handsome, about 6 ft. tall with the build of a football player. Doctors felt his health problems were minor and not worth the concern he gave them.

Wife Elizabeth’s brother, Webster M. Samuel, committed suicide at the home of brother in law Daniel E. Garrison Jr. in 1910.

Grandfather Oliver Garrison, "one of the oldest and most prominent citizens of St. Louis" committed suicide October 28, 1889. He had been suffering from kidney trouble.
