Jacob was born in 1831. He enlisted April 29, 1861 in the 5th Virginia Regiment ("the Stonewall Brigade") where he served as a blacksmith during the War Between the States. His regiment was prominently involved in many of the major battles. After the war, Jacob Garrison had a business as a blacksmith and wagonmaker in Middlebrook. He passed away in 1908 and is buried in the cemetery of St. Johns United Church of Christ near Middlebrook.
