John was not a son of Thomas Gaskins the immigrant. This is an error in Mary Taylor Brewer, From Log Cabins to the White House: A History of the Taylor Family (Wooton, Ky.: the author, c1985) which contains many genealogical errors.

he's attached to parents born after he was. I just added a bio for mother, Mary Snead. One of the sources I found says her son by Thomas Gaskins, John, was born about 1728.
Gascoyne-113 and Gaskins-48 appear to represent the same person because: These are the same people, but I think he was not born in England, as father emigrated in 1619 and did not receive land for bringing a son John.
