Biography
He was the tenth William Gascoigne in Thoresby's pedigree: "Sir William Gascoigne of Gawthorp, High Sheriff of York 20 H 6, married Margaret d of Thomas Clarrell wid of John Fitswilliams."[1]According to a note at the end of a document in which the Will of Robert Clarell, proved Oct. 8, 1349, the marriage took place in a clandestine manner.
