Biography

Thomas Gaskins, III was born about 1666, in Northumberland County, Virginia, a son of Thomas Gaskins, II born 1636, in Accomack County, Virginia, and his wife, Sarah. Before 1694, in Lancaster County, Virginia, Thomas married Martha Haynes, a daughter of Thomas Haynes and Elizabeth Jones, of that county. [1]

On January 21, 1679/80, John Pinkard, who married the relict (widow) of Thomas Gascoyne, and she now being dead, petitioned the court in the behalf of his estate, and that her five children might be delivered to John Taylor, Henry Magee, Josias Gascoyne and Henry Gascoyne. [Brothers and brothers-in-law of the deceased Thomas Gascoyne. [2]

On May 19, 1680, in Northumberland County, Court, Josias became the guardian of his nephew, Thomas "Gaskoyne" [3]

Before 1689, in Lancaster County, Virginia, Thomas married Martha Hanyes, a daughter of Thomas Haynes and Elizabeth Jones. Children of Thomas and Martha include:

  • Female Gaskins, born circa 1689, in Northumberland County, Virginia, died circa 1711, married, as his second wife, Richard Hull, born April 14, 1685 and mother of Sarah Hull, born November 25, 1706, and Richard Hull, born August 4, 1709 [4]
  • Thomas Gaskins, IV, born 1694, in Northumberland County, died August 8, 1737, in Northumberland County, married 1) Mary Conway, 2) Mrs (unknown) Gaskins [5]

Thomas Gaskins, III died July 20, 1726, in Northumberland County, Virginia. He wrote his Will on April 28, 1726. [6]

Wife Martha Gaskins-all the land I hold on the southside of "Mill Creek" during her natural life, and eight negroes vizt: Harry, Tom, Jane, Great Bess, Cate, Moll, Jack, and Suky, dur(ing her life.
grandaughter Elizabeth Gaskins and her heirs-two negroes Pegg and Letty.
grandson Thomas Gaskins and his heirs-two negroes Dinah and solomon
grandson Edwin Gaskins and his heirs-one negro Nell.
Thomas Gaskins-all the rest of my land and negroes.
Rest of my personal estate to be divided equally between my wife Martha Gaskins, and my son Thomas Gaskins, and they to be executors.
