Marguerite (15) married Jacques Girouard (21) (born about 1648 in Port-Royal, Acadie, Nouvelle-France; son of pioneers François Girouard and Jeanne Aucoin) in 1670 in Port-Royal, Acadie. Their known children were:[1]
On the census of 1671 taken at Port-Royal, Acadie, she was listed, age 17 with her husband Jacob, age 23, and an infant son. (She was also listed in her father's household, age 16). The families were living very close to each other. They had 7 head of cattle, 3 sheep and no land. He was also listed with his parents as a married son, Jacob, age 23.[2]
In 1686, at Port Royal, Marguerite GOTRO [sic], aged 32, was living with her husband, Jacques GIROUARD, aged 38, and their nine children: Alexandre, aged 16, Pierre, aged 14, Jacques, aged 12, Jean, aged 10, Marie, aged 8, Francois, aged 6, Marguerite, aged 4, Claude, aged 3 and Guillaume, aged 3 months. They lived on 6 arpents of cultivable land with 13 cattle and15 sheep.[3]
She appeared on the censuses of 1698, 1700 and 1701.[4]
Marguerite Gotrot, widow of Jacques Girouard, died on 2 Aug 1727, and was buried the next day at Port Royal, Acadia. Witnesses were François Giroard and Claude Giroard her children.[5][6]
Note that this burial location is uncertain as there are no grave markers and no records to confirm it: Garrison Graveyard, Annapolis Royal, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, Canada[7]
