Biography

Duane "DF" Gaylord was born in 1820. His birth location is uncertain, possibly Maine, Connecticut, New York, Wisconsin, or Missouri. His middle name may have been Frank or Franklin.

He married twice, first to Elvira Hammett in Wapello County, Iowa, 06 Nov 1845 [1].

Elvira (Hammett) Gaylord died in 1866. DF Gaylord remarried to Tabitha Ousley [b 1826 in VA].

Duane "DF" Gaylord died in 1881, probably in Cass County, Iowa.

Notes: Family info plus The History of Capello Co, Iowa. He was a standup lawful man and served as a town sheriff, treasurer, hotel manager, farmer and became lawyer in his later years. He was well respected and liked which makes me wonder at his murky early years. According to 25+ years of hunting him i can find no trace of his parents or birthplace. He seems to have just shown up in IA about 1844 in his mid 20s.

Above is a link to my 3rd great grandfather Duane F Gaylord. I have spent 20 yrs trying to locate his parents. He seems to have appeared in IOWA about 1840 and on census records he lists a different birthplace each decade. There s a lot to look at here. If you stumble on his parents, let me know

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with DF by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with DF:

Gaylord-775 and Gaylord-625 appear to represent the same person because: Birth & death dates, and geography of his life, seem to match up.
