Betsey was born in Schoharie County, New York[citation needed] to Chauncy and Mrs. Gaylord. [citation needed] in 1805.[1] She married James (Jacobus) Van Schoonhoven around 1819 when she was about 14. They lived in Lebanon (Evanville), Madison, New York. Their three children were born there: James (1820-1820)[2], Mary (1821-1824),[3] and Henry Chauncey (1823-1900). She died in 1826 in Earlville, New York. She is buried next to two of her babies. The inscription [misspelled] on her tombstone reads, "Van Schonhooven, Betsey, consort James d. 29 June 1826 ae 21yr ." [1]
