Biography

Edward was born in 1811. He passed away in 1886.

Edward R. Geary, son of Richard Geary (1779-1834) and Margaret White Geary (1770-1849), and Harriet Rebecca Reed (1814-1844), daughter of Capt. Samuel M. and Mary Agnew Reed, were married in 1838 at New Berlin, Pennsylvania. They had two daughters, 1840-1842. Rev. Geary was the pastor of Unity Church of Fredericksburg, Wayne County, Ohio, when he married 2) Miss Nancy Merrick Woodbridge (1818-1889), daughter of Ebenezer and Electa Hollistor Woodbridge of Canor, New York, at Coshocton, Ohio, in 1845. They had eight children, 1847-1862.

In 1851 the Presbyterian Board of Home Missions sent Rev. Geary and Rev. Robert Robe to Oregon. Rev. Geary went via the Isthmus of Panama while Rev. Robe took the overland route.

Rev. Geary was living in Brownsville, Linn, Oregon in 1860. He and wife Nancy and daughter Anna Geary comprised the family. He is listed as Superintendent of Indian Affairs.[1]He is also found in Portland in 1860, his occupation listed as Indian Agent.[2]

Rev. Geary was living in Albany, Oregon in 1870. His wife Nancy was age 50, b. New York. Daughter Lizzie was age 16, b Oregon. Daughter Ellen was age 14 b Oregon. Son Woodbridge was age 12. Son Edward was age 10.[3]

In 1880 Rev. Geary and his family were living at Eugene.[4]

Rev. Geary died in 1889 at Eugene, Oregon. His son, Dr. Edward Payson Geary (1859-1934), married Agnes M. McCornach at Eugene, Oregon, in 1884. They had five children, 1885-1895. He died at Portland, Oregon.
