Biography

John was born on 21 April 1795 in Cove of Cork (Cobh), Cork, Ireland. Per family bible or 1792 if Calvary records are correct. From google: The port, 1st called Cove of Cork in 1750, was renamed Queenstown in 1850. Cobh, known from 1850-1920 as Queenstown, is a popular tourist seaport town on the south coast of Co Cork.[1]

John was baptized on 23 June 1795 in Cork, Ireland.[1]

He Immigrated to the US, specifically NYC, on 25 December 1798. John emigrated from Cove of Cork Ireland according to the family bible. He married Catherine McGlade on 28 December 1826 in New York City. They had 15 children. John was keeper of the Croton Aqueduct receiving reservoir which supplied pure and wholesome water to the people of New York City and was built on property in the heart of the city where the New York City Public Library now sits.

He was naturalized on 20 April 1947 in the Court of Common Pleas. Civil: 20 April 1847 in New York, New York, USA.[2]

Between 1847 and 1857 John (age about 51) was employed in New York City, New York, New York, USA. Keeper of Receiving Reservoir, Croton Reservoir.

In the 1850 census John (age 55) was living. New York Ward 19, New York, New York - all children born in NYC. [3]

In 1855 John (age about 59) was living in New York City, Ward 22, New York, New York, USA. Age: 62Relation to Head of House: Head. Naturalized and eligible to vote. Lived with family + cousin, Fanny Geary and Augustus Reiner, 8 y.o. and Elizabeth Reiner, 7 y.o.[4]

In April 1857 according to a city directory John (age 62) was living in New York, New York, USA. W 86th St and 7th Ave. Occupation: keeper.[5]

John died at the age of 62 on 1 May 1857 in New York City (All Boroughs), New York, USA. from FamilySearch.org.

John was buried on 3 May 1857 in Woodside, Queens, New York, USA. First Calvary Cemetery Section 1West, Range 7, Plot V, Grave 18. Age: 67Birthplace: Ireland. (w/Catharine A., Eleanor M., Terence W., and Loretta A (Charlotte?). There is no marker. See media for map.
