Biography

From FindaGrave:[1]

Milton's parents, Amos T. Greer and Martha E. Todd, were married 23 Oct 1836, in Ashtabula, Ohio. Milton, born in 1838, and two of his four sisters (Jeanette and Susan) were born in Ashtabula, Ohio. Sometime before his next sister, Marlinda was born in 1849, the family moved to Dane County, Wisconsin. Another sister, Mary E. was born in Dane County in 1852. Sometime prior to the 1860 US Federal Census, the family moved to Bloomfield, Clinton, Iowa. Amos, Martha, and their family attended the Seventh Day Baptist Church at Welton, Clinton Co, Iowa. Amos and Martha are buried at the Seventh Day Baptist Cemetery in Welton, IA.

The SDB Church of Longbranch, Richardson County, Nebraska, record Milton Geer as joining the church in 1871. It can be surmised that Milton explored the possibility of living there and/or maybe going further west. His mother died in 1872. It appears, according to Ancestry.com records, Milton returned to Welton, Clinton Co., Iowa, likely to care for his three younger sisters. His sister, Jeanette is not listed on the 1880 Census. It appears, by searching Ancestry.com, that Milton never married.

He died in the Soldier's Home in Marshalltown from sunstroke.Sumner Gazette. 18 Jul 1901 in Sumner, Iowa.[1]

Military

Milton fought in the Civil War. He enlisted as a private and ended as a corporal. He served in the 18th Regiment, Iowa Infantry, Company A from 1861-1865.[2][3]
