  • Note about above military records: even though Mr. Geer would have been just a boy at the time of service, it was not at all uncommon for young boys his age to serve in wars (Revolutionary, 1812, and Civil War) in various capacities, which it is hard for us to imagine sending our young sons into war zones but back then it was a fact of life. The reference card for the military for Mr. Geer was originally filed under "Christopher Riffe", who would be worthy of being researched himself. A common practice for someone with money then was to have a substitute serve in their place-- Mr. Geer must have been chosen as a substitute for Mr. Riffe.
