The 1900 Census of Berkeley Springs, Morgan County, West Virginia shows a Mary E. Strother, 67 years old, born November 1832. She was widowed and living alone. She was the mother of two children, one living. Mary was born in West Virginia. Her father was born in West Virginia, and her mother in Pennsylvania. Mary could read and write, and lived in her own house, without a mortgage.[10] This appears to be a different Mary E. Strother than the one reported in the 1880 Wayne County Census, as the birth places of her parents do not match the 1900 Census.
