Biography

James Anderson Gentry was born 06 Oct 1872[1] in Mississippi to James Gentry and Clarissa Harvey[2] and died in 1937.[3] He is buried in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Mize, Smith County, Mississippi.[3]

Research Notes

After James Anderson and his second wife, Annie L Martin both died in 1937, the children went to various siblings in the 1940 censuses. The children from his first wife, Maggie Craft, took in the children from his second, wife Annie L Martin. Bishop-4082 18:34, 15 January 2023 (UTC)

  1. Herbert Gentry, 27 did not find his 1940 census record but his WWII registration dated 16 Oct 1940, listed his next of kin as his sister, Mrs Myrl Ferrell
  2. Willie B Gentry, age 15 went to half-sister, Myrtle Batton and family
  3. James Harold Gentry, age 14 went to brother, Herman Gentry and his family
  4. J A Gentry, age 11 went to half-sister Myrl Vinson Ferrell and her family
  5. Arice Allen, age 10 was adopted by Vollis T. Allen and Elvira L. Frith
  6. Jimmie (James) Gentry, age 7 went Hazel Ferrell and her family
  7. Garnett Gentry, age 4 was fostered by Tallie Hinds Bishop and Mettie Bush
