Biography

Elias L Gentry was married to Ida Adaranda at the time Sarah Bearden became pregnant with Newton W Bearden. According to records from Philadelphia Baptist Church following Newton's birth, a committee was organized to "investigate" the charges of bastardy brought against Elias and Sarah. Elias was admonished by the church and requested to remove himself from the church. Sarah was questioned and the committee recommended to exclude her from the fellowship of the church. Elias later moved to Williamson County, Tennessee as shown on the 1870 Federal Census and then to Scott County, Arkansas as shown on the 1880 Federal Census. He died on October 20, 1913 in Scott County, Arkansas.
