Joy was a naturalist, artist, and author best known for her book, Born Free, which describes her experiences raising a lion cub named Elsa. Born Free was eventually made into an Academy Award-winning movie of the same name.
Joy Friederike Victoria Adamson was born on 20 Jan 1910 in Troppau, Austria.[1] She was the daughter of Victor Gessner and Traute Unknown.
On 26 Feb 1954, Frederike Victoria Adamson, age 44, left England for Mombasa, Kenya aboard the ship D G Gungunninghame.[2]
Joy F V Adamson, age 52, British citizen, arrived at New York on 2 Dec 1962.[1]
She was murdered in 1980.
