Biography
Sarah Mitchell was born at New Meadows (now Brunswick), Maine, 9 Jul 1742, the daughter of Israel Mitchell and Mary Berry; [1] [2] Sarah has been misidentified in some sources as "Sarah Getchell", [3] undoubtedly because Sarah's mother, Mary Mitchell (née Berry and widow of Israel Mitchell) married (2) Joseph Getchell of Scarborough in 1750. See the discussion in Maine Families in 1790. [4] She married at Scarborough, 7 Nov 1762, Benjamin Foss. [5]
