Samuel was the son of Thomas Gibbs of Sandwich and an unidentified mother. His birth is recorded as 23 June 1639 in the Sandwich records,[1] but researcher Lydia Brownson reports the correct year is 1649.[2]

"Samuell Gibbs and Patience Butler were married the 5 day of march anno: Domini 1676."[3] They had five children, who were likely all born in Sandwich.[4]
