Biography

Philip was born in 1707, the oldest son of James Gibbs and his wife, Mary Gibbs. He was orphaned before March 1724, when he appeared in the Court of Prince Georges, Maryland Province, to choose Henry Barns as his guardian. He appeared again at the Court during the August 1727 Session (Liber N, Folio 496) at age 20 to change his choice of Guardian to William Webster (who was also his brother-in-law and the original guardian for his siblings James, Jane, Mary and Mary Ann).[1]
