Birth

original gedcoms give two dates for birth, 1572 and 1582 both reference generic ancestry tree one says Bristol, Somerset, the other Dorset[1]

Marriage

Marriage:
Date: 19 JUN 1603
Place: St Thomas Parish, Bristol, England[2]

Death

Mary wrote her will on 8th June 1634 , probate was granted to Robert Pitt, her son 25th November 1634

In her will she includes bequests or mention of

deceased son William Pitt
Mary Newell , daughter wife of Andrew Newell
John Newell, grandson
son, Henry
daughters Maud Pitt, daughter Martha (transcribers note, odd since Martha Pitt is mentioned along with brother Thomas as being already deceased in the will of brother William Pitt, is this perhaps a daughter in law?)
daughter Anne Edwards
grandsons William Edwards , John Edwards
son Robert Pitt (executor ) and his sons William and Robert.
grandson John Pitt
sister Pearse, sister Bush
brother Pawle.

Note on maiden name

At present the only sources for the maiden name of William Pitts wife Mary are a generic ancestry tree. There is a date given for her marriage. However in the will of her father in law Thomas Pitt , two sons are mentioned this William and his brother Thomas and three daughter in laws

Mary Marlow
Cicely Gunning
Elizabeth Batterson[5]

In his will Wiliam refers to 'sisters' two by Christian name and surname, one of these at least would appear to be his natural sister Alice and 2 by surname alone.

my sister Mary Davis',
my sister Malowe,
sister Gunning
my sister Alice Knight'

The surname Marlow appears twice on these lists. Since William's mother was definitely called Mary and he was already living at the time of his grandfathers will, it is possible that William's wife was a Mary Marlow not Gibbs.[6]

A marriage of a William Pitt to a Mary Gibbs would not in itself constitute proof since William himself had a least one other cousin called William Pitt.
