William joined the Canadian overseas expeditionary force in 1918 as a blacksmith with the Lord Strathcona Horse .After the war he moved to Fernie B.C. from Winnepeg Manitoba with his wife , Amelia Jane ,and 2 sons Edwin T. and Cyril William were he was the town blacksmith.While in Fernie he had 2 more sons Reg and Fred.The family later moved to Swallwell Alberta were he opened up a blacksmith shop and sat on the town council.He had 2 more children a son William John and a daughter Gwen.He died of a massive coronary while shodding a horse.
