Hawkins was a farmer. In 1821 he moved to Howard Cnty Mo. with his parents. In 1830 census he was listed living next to his parents and owned one slave.
In Sept. 1854 they joined the Mt. Olive Baptist CHurch in Henry Co. Mo. All of their living children were baptized there.
In 1866 after the Civil War, Hawkins at 59 took his family to Texas. They ended their journey in what is now Lancaster Tx and bought land for $2. per acre.
