Robert was born in 1811 in Landgrove Vermont. Robert Gibson was a cooper by trade arriving in early La Salle (later Grundy County Illinois) with his brother in 1836. He married and moved to Mazon Illinois (Grundy County) about 1840. His oldest son was born in Saratoga County New York in 1842, so he must have travelled back to that region on the Erie Canal, perhaps, before settling fully in Mazon. Did he bring his father to Illinois at that time? He passed away in 1881. [1]
