DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Rebecca by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Rebecca:

Updated information, she wasn’t a Gibson per marriage certificate, she was a Thomas. Removed parents. Her father is Jesse Thomas but I haven’t identified him as of yet. Feedback please…

I found Charles and Rebecca’s marriage certificate and it has her maiden name as Thomas, daughter of Jesse Thomas. I’m adding it to photos. May need further research to validate

Do any of you know if Rebecca Gibson line was melungeon shes my 4th great grandmother and i have melungeon descent. Not sure if she was or not. One of the parents I have for her phoebe Hendricks traces roots back to pernambuco settlers in New Amsterdam and some Dutch sephardic ancestry in 16th and 17th centuries. Can anyone help determining if her family or she was Melungeon?

Some Gibson's lines are listed as Melungeon and some are not. As for this Rebecca I am not sure if she is. I will keep an eye out and see if I can find anything.

I've got a lot of heartburn over the Hicks of Russel VA, Floyd, Greenup, and Carter Co KY. My facts are I'm a descendant of Christina (Christeena) Hicks m. William H. Qualls. Both Qualls and Hicks in this populous line with many descendants both have nebulous pasts before 1800. The attempts to connect this line to persons with a greater degree of documentation seem to contain many unsourced issues. I match to many Collins/Gipson/Gibson/Goins through my Hicks/Qualls, yet, the most popular trees the line of Henry Hicks m Sarah Nolen and David Qualls m. Barbara Smith do not ostensibly link to Rebecca Gibson directly nor any other FPOC suspect like the above mentioned common Melungeon/protoLumbee/FPOC surnames. Are we looking at a NPE in this line?

It is very possible there is a NPE. I am untangling two Gibson lines. One is my husband's direct maternal line from North Carolina to Kentucky to Henry County Tennessee. One from my husband's paternal line that married into his England family. I am using DNA to help clear up some things but others are still a mystery. I will have to do more research on this Rebecca and see what I can find

Did THIS Rebecca indeed NEVER LEAVE KENTUCKY?

No, she’s buried in Johnson County Kentucky next to her one of her daughters. I recently uncovered her marriage certificate to Charles Hicks and she wasn’t a Gibson, she was a Thomas, daughter of Jesse Thomas whom hasn’t been identified as of yet.

Gibson-11017 and Gibson-72 are not ready to be merged because: There are many things that must be sourced & corrected before the merge can happen.
