Legal
James Gibson & George Gibson, Administrators of George Gibson, deceased.
The Administrators complain against Milly Hatfield who is a non-resident and is one of the Legaties and heirs of George Gibson, dec'd, and will be entitled in the distribution of said estate. However, Milly became indebted to James and George Gibson, the Administrators, for $155 on 3 Aug 1838. It was agreed between the three of them that Milly, out of her share of the estate, they were to retain and be paid the amount of the note as of her agreement. We are informed that Milly has sold her interest in said estate to Moses Sallee and he has not paid Milly the amount he agreed on and we, James and George Gibson, believe the purpose of this transaction was to prevent us from collecting from Milly on the Note. Said Moses Sallee has executed and gave his obligation to the son-in-law of Milly, John McCoy, who is a non-resident. May it please your honor to grant an Injunction and restraining order against Moses Sallee prohibiting him from paying over to Milly Hatfield & John McCoy until the matters in this Suit can be heard.
This Bill filed 24 Sep 1859.[1]
Name: Mary ("Milly") Gibson.[2][3]
The information on Millie (Gibson) Hatfield is pretty confusing. Names, people, dates, and places do not agree. About the only thing known for sure is that Millie was Ale Hatfield's first wife, and that Elizabeth Young was his second wife in Indiana.
Born: probably 1789 probably Washington County, Virginia.[2][3]
Married: Ale Hatfield, 7 Apr 1836 Greene County, Indiana.[4]
Ale and Elizabeth began living together abt 1811, though they could not marry for 25 yrs, when his first wife finally agreed to give him a divorce. They were married within days of the divorce being granted. They had already had 8 children, and there was always friction between Ale's 1st family and his 2nd family because of the circumstances.
Died: 15 Mar 1852 Greene County, Indiana.[3]
No will or probate file found in the Greene County Courthouse.
Elizabeth lived with her son, Washington, from Ale's death in 1842 until her own death.
Buried: Armistead Hatfield Cemetery, Owensburg, Greene County, Indiana.
Marker: "Died Mar 15, 1852, aged 63 years. Erected by Manuel Hatfield."[3]
