I am Kathaleen Marie Gibson Ranney. I was born in Redding, California, January 20, 1953, while my parent's were visiting my grandmother, Theda Mae Boone Gibson, who I believe was living in Millville at the time. My parents were still living in Phoenix, Arizona, where my father, Mervin William Gibson was a former Army Air Force pilot and trainer during the Korean War, where he met my mother, Sally Rose Duke Gibson Heinle Dauer at a USO dance. After my maternal grandfather, Robert Rito Duke, passed away in 1957 we moved back to Northern California, closer to my father's family. We lived 1 year in Cottonwood, while my father worked as a rigger/ choker setter for Sutter Brother's logging company. In 1957 we moved to Enterprise, Redding, California where my father and a friend started a dairy delivery service called Crystal Dairy. After my father passed away, in 1962, at the age of 9, my brothers, sister, and I went across the country to Baltimore, Maryland to live with my mothers' older sister, Helen Duke Dauer, while she settled my father's estate. In 1964, my mother moved us back to Red Bluff, California, where she married a fireman named James Heinle. After an unsuccessful marriage, my mom, plus all of us, returned to live with my aunt and uncle in Baltimore, Maryland. My education was very important to me, having been educated elementary and half of high school in Parochial schools. After high school I attended Antioch College, and annex located in Baltimore at the time, studying sociology, focusing on abused children. I did not finish, instead married Thomas Joseph Ranney October 21, 1972. I worked as a cash operations manager for a chain department store. After losing a live birth son, and battling female issues, Thomas Joseph Ranney Jr was born in 1976. It took us 7 years to conceive our next child, William (named for his grandfather) Phillip Ranney, born November 21,1982. By this time I was a part owner and manager of a video tape rental and catering, wine and liquor store, until 1992, when I left to return to college. I attended Essex Community College, attaining my Associates Degree in Business Administration. From there, I transferred to Towson State University where I graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, with a minor in Special Education. I worked as a Special Education Resource teacher for the Baltimore County Public School system for 4 years, transferring to the Baltimore Archdiocese Catholic School system in 2000, teaching grades 3, 4, and 5, until school closings and budget cuts caused an early retirement, at age 59, in 2011. I returned to Essex Community College in 2012, finishing the Medical Billing and Coding Certification program. My age played an adversary role, and now I am a proud, retired teacher, helping my sons and being a very proactive and involved grandparent. Like my father, I have always found great pleasure in drawing and sketching, writing, nature photography, and reading. I am an adamant gardener, participate in nature conservation, enjoy planning day trips to Maryland wineries, and can't wait for warmer weather to take out my kayak, and snorkel, boogyboard, and swim in the ocean.
