Celina Josephine Gibson was born 9 September 1845 at Putnam County, Indiana. She married (1) Andrew McCord on 21 December 1865 at Polk County, Iowa and (2) John A. Scantlin on 5 March 1882 at Cottage Grove Township, Allen County, Kansas. She died 24 November 1917 at Allen County, Kansas.

The Savonburg Record (Savonbur, Kansas) 10 November 1905 p.3, col. 4: Mrs. Celina J. Scantlin has filed a suit in district court asking a divorce from her husband, J.A. Scantlin. In her petition Mrs. Scantlin recites that they were married in 1882 and that she has been subjected to abuse and ill treatment ever since by her husband and his two children by a former wife. A short time ago Mrs. Scantlin was assaulted and almost killed by Thomas Scantlin who struck her on the head with a rock. Mrs. Scantlin wants a divorce and a division of the property. The Scantlins live over on Big Creek in the Leanna neighborhood.

The Savonburg Record (Savonburg, Kansas) 9 February 1906 p. 3, col. 4: The divorce case wherein Mrs. J. C. Scantlin is suing her husband for divorce has been settled and dismissed. Mr. and Mrs. Scantlin have come to an agreement to live together again. They have settled their troubles and the dove of peace is again hovering over the household. The agreement was entered into some time ago when the sawyers succeeded in bringing them together. Mrs. Scantlin brought suit for divorce and alimony and an injunction was run on the husband to prevent him from disposing of any property. That will now be dissolved. - Tuesday's Iola Record.

The Humboldt Union (Humboldt, Kansas) 29November 1917 p. 4, col. 1: Died. Mrs. J.A. Scantlin passed away at her home in the Leanna neighborhood, Saturday, November 24, after only one weeks illness with acute pneumonia. Celina Josephine Gibson was born in Putnam county, Indiana, September 9, 1845, and was aged 72 years, 2 months and 15 days at the time of her death. She was the eldest daughter of N.W. and Joessee Gibson. In 1865 she was united in marriage to Mr. Andrew McCord, coming to Kansas in 1867. To their union was born two children, Mrs. Ed Kelley of Leanna, and Augustus, who died several years ago. at the home near Leanna Mr. McCord also passed away. In the year 1881 the deceased was married to Mr. J.A. Scantlin, and to them were born two children, Clinton, who lives in Lamar, Colorado, and Mrs. Emma Scott, who died two years ago. Mrs. Scantlin was a good woman and will be much missed by her many friends and neighbors. Besides the husband and children who survive, she is mourned by eleven brothers and sisters and numerous other relatives. Hers was the first death for over thirty years in this large family. Those surviving are the six brothers, John, Willis, and Oscar Gibson of Humboldt; Cyrus B., of Chanute; Charlie G., of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Ben G. of Siloam Springs Arkansas. Also five sisters, Mrs. Cal Thompson, Mrs. M.E. Stevenson and Mrs. Phoebe Thompson, of Humboldt; Mrs. W.W. Waldrip, of Chanute, and Mrs. K.A. Abbott of Niotaze, Kansas. Funeral services were conducted by the pastor of the Christian church of Savonburg, at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, and burial was in the Leanna cemetery.
