Biography

William Gilbert was christened at St Peter's Church, in Derby on 25 Oct 1809 with his parents named as William and Anne Gilbert.^[1]

William married Ellen Gibson in Derby by Banns on 14 February 1831 when both single and of the Parish and with witnesses Henry Gibson and ?Elisabeth Gibson.^[2].

At the time of the 1841 England and Wales Census, William, Ellen, Lydia, William, Sarah, Joseph, and Henry Gilbert were listed as living on Malt Sitwell Street in St Peter, Derbyshire, along with Susan Gilbert, who may have been William's sister^[3].

At the time of the 1861 England and Wales Census, William, Ellen, William, Sarah, Joseph, Henry, John, and Edwd Gilbert were listed as living on Malt House Row in St Peter, Derbyshire, along with a visitor^[4]. At the time of the census, William's occupation was listed as "Silk Weaver".

At the time of the 1881 England and Wales Census, William, Ellen, and Joseph Gilbert were listed as living on Babington Lane in St Peter^[5]. At the time of the census, William's occupation was listed as "Elastic Weaver".
