Trying to sort out the profiles of Gilbert-1674 and Gilbert-1772.
1674 shows birth in Baltimore and death in Fred. County.
1772 shows birth and death both in Baltimore.
1772 shows daughter Susanna (Gilbert) Riatt born in Fred. Co. along with his Revolutionary War activity. Conflict is midlife activity in Fred. Co. yet birth and death in Baltimore.
1772 has notes about his will from 1793/4. It would be good to know WHERE his will was filed/probated. I have been unable to find this.
I BELIEVE THIS PERSON IS LINKED TO THE WRONG FATHER

The John Gilbert whom I believe to be father of Thomas Gilbert Sr. was most likely from Somersetshire, England. This was because he was TEST to the Will of one Nicholas Tobey from Somersetshire in 1674. Maryland Calendar of Wills, Volume I page 87. Dunno why the Will shows up in Baltimore Co, but John Gilbert was a "Merchant", so maybe Nicholas Tobey was also, and they travelled the Atlantic on more than one occasion.
• this John Gilbert conveyed 1600 acres known as "The Grove" to Abraham Wild in 1670 (a person named Abraham Wild was Captain of a ship called "Avarilla" that transported people from England.)
• My Thomas Gilbert Sr. was born about 1650-1652. probably in England. I believe he was the son of a John Gilbert who in 1671 proved his right to 300 acres of land in Baltimore Co for the transport of several persons. One of those persons was named Elizabeth Walker. She may have been the same Elizabeth who married Thomas Gilbert, who was probably the son of the above John Gilbert.
• Thomas was witness to a land sale in old Baltimore Co in 1673, so he was an adult by 1673,
• Elizabeth Gilbard was TEST: to the Will of a Jacob Lotton in Baltimore Co 20 March 1693/94. He had appeared on the 1692 tax list a few houses from Thomas Gilberts, but does not appear in 1694 (I have not found 1693 - yet!).
• Thomas Gilbert paid taxes in Spesutia Hundred 1692 and 1694 (as Gilbart), and the next listing in each case is Richard Simpson, his son-in-law.
• Anne Gilbert was born about 1670, was married to Richard Simpson about 1687, and was mother of at least nine kids. There was a Thomas, two Elizabeths, and a Jonathan, Anne Gilbert married Richard Simpson. She was a relatively young widow when he died in 1711, so I suspect she remarried, also. But not until after 1715, when two of her quite young daughters were "bound out" to John and Elizabeth Clark (this with the consent of Thomas Simpson, Anne's oldest son and guardian of the younger children). John and Elizabeth Clark appear to have had a son named Gilbert, which makes me suspect that Anne and Elizabeth were sisters.
• In 1695, Thomas Gilburt Jr. (now over 16 yr old) joined the ranks of the taxables, still next door to Richard Simpson.
• In 1699, Thomas Gillbord, Sr & Jr. paid their taxes.
• In 1700, Thomas Gifford Sr and Jr are joined by John Gifford. Both those years, they are still next to Richard Simpson.
• In 1701, Thomas Gillbord Sr, Jr, and John (another son of Thomas sr. ?) pay their taxes. By now, there are several names between them and Richard Simpson.
• Thomas Gilbord made his Will 6 Oct 1707, and it was proved 4 Feb 1708/09. Elizabeth was Executrix and Sole legatee. No children are mentioned, but all three that I know of were already established in their own homes, so maybe that is why.
• The Thomas Gilbert who married Hannah Ashford (his second marriage) was Thomas Jr. He died 1714. He left behind a Thomas Jr. Jr, who I found mentioning "Uncle William Simpson" in 1736. The William Simpson mentioned would be William I, born 1695 to Anne Gilbert.
• John Gilbert, son of Thomas Gilbert, had a wife named Mary, and sons John, Thomas and Ephriam, plus two daughters.
At least, I think that is the right guy! His Will mentions a contact in Philadelphia, so I am guessing the merchant business went on.
• But, in 1699, Jarvis Gilbard paid his taxes in Middle River Hundred. And in 1701, Jarvis Gibbard paid his taxes in the North Side of the Patapsco Hundred
The father is based on the source on the profile....The father is Thomas Gilbert who married Hannah Ashford.....I need more information about why you think that is incorrect.
This Thomas has the same birth date as Thomas Gilbert-1770. I set them as an unmerged match for profile managers to look at as I think they are either the same and mixed up or a wrong birth date for one.
