Biography

This profile is part of the Gilbert Name Study.

Elizabeth (Gilbert) Deming was born on Mar 28, 1654, in Wethersfield, Connecticut. She was the daughter of Josiah Gilbert and Elizabeth Belcher. [1]

Jonathan Deming and Elizabeth Gilbert were married on 25 Dec 1673 in Wethersfield. Elizabeth was his second wife.[2][3]

Jonathan Deming, Sr. & wife, Elizabeth (Gilbert), were church members in 1694. She died Sept 3, 1714 age 60, according to the Church Records Index.[4] Several secondary sources list her death as Sept 8. Her nuncupative will was dated the 4th, which generates a question about the third, although the witnesses may have written the information down after Elizabeth's death. If possible the original church records should be checked to verify the 3rd in case a transcription error was made.

Probate

Elizabeth Deming of Wethersfield, relict of Jonathan Deming, left a nuncupative will, dated 4 Sep 1714, and witnessed by Sarah Deming and Abigail Deming date 5 Sept 1714. The will left "what Estate doth ofright belong to her in her life time or in reversion" to her daughters Mary and Anne Deming equally. She specifies that her bed and furniture, which she "lyeth on" be left to Ann as part of her equal portion. The inventory was valued at £37. 0. 7.[5] No executor was mentioned and the court appointed Jonathan Deming and John Edwards.[6] who gave an accounting 7 Dec 1715.[7]

This Elizabeth Gilbert is not the child of her listed parents nor the sibling of her listed sisters. The dates are a century off. Gilbert-166 should be removed from these parents. Thanks.
Elizabeth Gilbert born in 1671 cannot possibly be the daughter of Thomas Gilbert born in 1533. Do you mean for her to be Elizabeth, dau Josiah & Elizabeth, b Mar 28, 1654 in Wethersfield Conn.? Or is she another Elizabeth?

Attn: Managers of profiles for Elizabeth (Gilbert) Deming. Is your Elizabeth the wife of Jonathan Deming of Wethersfield (Son of immigrant John Deming & Honor (Treat) Deming? If so all the dates are mostly off by one or two generations. I doubt very much that there is another Elizabeth Gilbert b 1570-1600 in England who married another Jonathan Deming. There is an Elizabeth Deming, b 1595 ish in England, who is perhaps the sister of John Deming, immigrant (h/o Honor Treat). Please let me know.

Elizabeth Gilbert Deming the d/o Josiah & Elizabeth Gilbert was born Mar 28 1654 in Wethersfield. She married Jonathan Deming (his second wife ) dec 25, 1673. She died 8 Sep 1714.

Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Elizabeth Gilbert did not marry John Deming. She married Jonathan Deming. John married Mary Mygott.
