Thomas Gilbert (sometimes Gilburt) was born 3 Nov 1681 in Springfield, Massachusetts, son of Thomas and Abilene Gilbert[1][2][3]
"Thomas [Gilbert] settled in Brookfield about 1690, and built a house on the north side of the 'new country road' east of Owen's tavern. His grants of land in all amounted to 484 acres. He was town clerk 35 consecutive years, prior to his death May 22, 1753., and was town treasurer 31 years." [4]
The original Record Book of the Proprietors of Brookfield, (Mass.) 1701-1772 details the land grants to Thomas Gilbert from about 1702-1719.? (This is challenging to read).[5] The Record Book also details land grants to a Henry Gilbert, during the same time period as Thomas (beginning in 1702). Perhaps this is a brother or other relative? [6]
Thomas's marriage to Martha Barns occurred in or before 1702.[7]
Thomas Gilbert, Esq. died 22 May 1753 in Brookfield, Massachusetts.[8][9][3]

However, there are no known yDNA test-takers in his direct paternal line.
Mitochondrial DNA test-takers in the direct maternal line:
Brookfield marriage records confirm a (second) marriage of "Thomas Esq."on "May 27 174_" to (the widow) "Mrs. Marcy Barns". J.H. Temple dates this 1741; he identifies Marcy as "Mercy Barns, widow of Samuel and daughter of Dea. Henry Gilbert". He also identifies Thomas's first wife as Martha Barns, daughter of Thomas.
