DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:
Why do you believe that William was the son of John Gilbert-3547 and his wife Martha Dodge-950?
The biographies of John and Martha show they were born and died in Massachusetts, and they had a son Jonathan, born in 1713 in Massachusetts. With no evidence they had a son in 1699 in North Carolina, I have removed them as his parents.
There is also no evidence to show that the 1790 census information for William Gilbert in Gloucester, Essex, Massachusetts, United States (citing p. 247, NARA microfilm publication M637, (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.), roll 4; FHL microfilm 568,144) is information relating to a man who was born, married and died in North Carolina. William Gilbert is a fairly common name, and the man in Massachusetts in 1790 must have been a different person. I've also removed that "source" for this profile.
