Caleb Gilbert was born at Southampton, Suffolk, New York in 1700. He was the son of Caleb Gilbert and Elizabeth Bower.[1] Caleb married Phebe Carpenter in 1730 at Southampton. Phebe was born about 1711 in Westchester, New York. She was the daughter of Silas Carpenter and Jane Thorncraft.[2]

Phebe Gilbert passed away 25 Nov 1739 at Southampton. She was laid to rest in the North End Burial Ground, Southampton.[3]
Following Phebe's death, Caleb removed, before 1744, to Orange County, New York, and settled in or near the town of Cornwall. Some of his children were by his second wife, whose name is not known. In an old deed recorded in Orange County, he is called "carpenter."[4]
WILL of CALEB GILBERT, 19 Apr 1755 - 18 Apr 1760: I, Caleb Gilbert, of Orange County, yeoman. I leave to my two sons, Ebenezer and Stephen, the farm or Plantation whereon I now live, and as soon as they are of age they shall pay to my sons John and Josiah œ10 each. I leave to my daughter, Phebe Goldsmith, 20 shillings gs. All the rest of my estate I leave to my sons John and Jeremiah and my daughter, Hannah Gilbert. I make Silas Person [Pierson?] and Samuel Birdseye executors.[5][6]
Caleb Gilbert died about 1760 at Orange County, New York.[7]
