Galatea Gilbert was probably born around 1773, possibly in South Carolina. Burial Pine Level Cem., Autauga, AL. They were living in Autuaga County, AL, 20 September, 1831.

After the Revolutionary war was over he remained in South Carolina until 1818, when he brought a colony to Alabama and settled on the Autuaga side of the Alabama river, where he remained until his death. [Memorial Record of Alabama, Vol 2, p. 895, and Alabama Historical Society, Transactions, Vol. 4, p. 535.]

He was a Baptist, married Galatea Gilbert.

His will describes the "gifts" of Jeremiah Chancellor to several of his relatives. The document is marked (X) by Jeremiah and Galatea Chancellor, is dated 20 September, 1831, and was attested to the clerk of the county court on November 19, 1831.
