William Gilbert is probably the one baptised at Fonthill Gifford in Wiltshire on 9 May 1802 with his parents named as Robert and Judith Gilbert as this better fits his age in the censuses post 1841 than the William Gilbert baptised at Fonthill on 11 Sep 1803 with parents named as Robert and Elizabeth Gilbert. [1] Furthermore, the earlier William had a sister called Charlotte and William had a Charlotte Gilbert witness his marriage.
William Gilbert of Fonthill Gifford married Keziah Coombes of Tisbury at Fonthill Gifford with the consent of friends after Banns on 6 Nov 1824 with witnesses William Gilbert and Charlotte Gilbert.[2]
