Biography

Nicholas Barnabas Gilbert was born in 1736, in Pennsylvania, United States, his father, Nicholas William Gilbert, (1719 – 13 August 1772) and his mother, Joanna Margaret Vanlandingham (1721 – 1746). :There is a Nicholas Gilbert listed in census b. 1719 - d. 1784 who could be his father.[citation needed]

He married Margaret Christian in 1760, in Pennsylvania, United States. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 5 daughters.

He died on 3 February 1789, in Bourbon, Kentucky, United States, at the age of 53.

Nicholas or "Barney" Gilbert's birth year is not known for certain nor for that matter is his birth place or his parents or that his proper name was Nicholas. His unsourced' FindAGrave memorial is not for a gravestone and is just another site speculating as to facts.[1] So the 1740 estimate for his birth year is just that pending any other facts being unearthed.

From census records and Will probate, Nicholas Barnabas Gilbert was living in Lancaster Co, PA and married Margaret Christian there.[citation needed]

By the time children came along, the family was living in Bourbon County, KY, where Barney died in 1789.[citation needed]

The children were

  1. Nicholas,
  2. Barbary,
  3. Margaret,
  4. Barnabas,
  5. Catherine,
  6. Christian and
  7. Christina.

His widow, Margaret, went on to marry James GREEN.[2]

Thank you. I always wonder where these exact dates come from on Family Search and other sites when there are no sources.
Gilbert-6310 and Gilbert-3409 appear to represent the same person because: This is the same person--father of Christina Gilbert Zornes. I just discovered this unconnected from my tree! My information is estimated and will happily concede to yours. Please merge. Thank you!
Gilbert-5421 and Gilbert-3409 appear to represent the same person because: Same wife, same birth and death dates
