Biography

I live in Wiltshire in England and I am a member of The Society of Genealogists, The Foundation for Medieval Genealogy and The Guild of One-Name Studies.

My main Projects are:

Gilbert Surname & DNA Study I am the co-Admin of the DNA Project with Jane Gilbert who lives in the USA, and Project Leader here on WikiTree. I am the manager of the Gilbert One-Name Study registered with the Guild of One_Name Studies

Kingsmill Surname & DNA Study WikiTree Project Leader for the Kingsmill Study and manager of the Kingsmill One-Name Study registered with the Guild of One_Name Studies. I am particularly interested in the Kingsmills in the Medieval period and working out the connection of the Kent, Ireland and Hampshire families in the 15/1600s.

Dowding Surname & DNA Study WikiTree Project Leader for the Dowding (and Dowden) Study and the manager of the Dowding One-Name Study registered with the Guild of One_Name Studies

Doxey Surname Study WikiTree Project Leader for the Doxey Study

My own Gilbert line is from Lincolnshire and then Nottinghamshire all the way back to the 1500s. So I am not related to any Cornish or Devonshire Gilberts but I do create and work on those Gilberts and many others in the UK as part of the Surname & DNA Project. I am particularly interested in the various Gilbert families of the Midland counties and trying to establish connections between the various clusters who might be related and to Gilberts who emigrated to America to help make sense of Y-DNA matches.

Chris and Jane have been very helpful to me and helped me find several living Gilbert cousins which filled in gaps

I sent Chris a private e-mail thanking him for his help. He quickly noticed some errors and some needed mergers, as we have some interconnections among our ancient grandparents and families.

I’m wondering if there is any evidence that Katherine Gilbert Harrison is a child of https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Gilbert-100. I haven’t found any evidence, but they seem to be from the same area.

Hello Chris, I invite you to view the web page "Parish Register Transcripts" information, which is fascinating to me - unlearned and untutored in research as I am- I found it by searching the term

"gilbert site:https://freepages.rootsweb.com/~wrag44/genealogy/"

it is titled "This website is a compendium of my notes from many years research into my ancestry in the northern parishes of Gloucestershire and southern parishes of Worcestershire."

Hi Chris. Sources and external links are technically different, though they are often mixed. A source is where the information on the profile comes from. A "see also" is a link to another site for related information. Regardless, you'd never want to replace a full citation with just a link. That will offend some WikiTreers who are sticklers for source styling.

Your assistance before we joined WikiTree has been very valuable. Especially the steering part pointing out paths to follow.

WikiTree requires a unique email address for each member. Once that mysterious road block was passed, all issues disappeared.

Hi Chris

Thank you for your welcome and sorry I haven't responded before. My computer broke down bigstyle and my husband has had it in bits all week. My next challenge is to enter the names of my ancestors as I haven't found out how to do that yet! Most of my ancestors on the Gilbert and Gregory side are from North Petherwin which is now in Devon and Warbstow. Looking forward to seeing what happens next. kind regards Ann
