Died at his home Xenia Kansas January 17, 1896, Chauncey Gilbert aged 75 years.
He was born at Rochester New York in 1821 and afterwards lived in Lorain County of Ohio until about 1840 when with his father's family he removed Steuben County where he lived until 1862, when he decided to move to Kansas , becoming one of the first settlers and enduring all the hardships and privations of a new country.
His wife, Nancy, died 1893.
Uncle Chauncey, as he was always called in his latter years, was loved and respected by all who knew him and was followed to his last resting place by a large concourse of people .

Buried at Stevenson Cemetery, Mapleton, Bourbon County, Kansas. [2]
