Margaret was born at the end of 1856 in the district of Carlisle, Cumberland. She was the daughter of John Gilbertson and Elizabeth (Kirkpatrick) Gilbertson.^[1]

Margaret was baptised on 19 April 1957 in Upperby, Cumberland, England.^[2]

Margaret married Joseph Fowler in Dalbeattie, Kirkcudbrightshire in 1877 ^[3]
