Stephen Gile was born on February 2, 1791 in Alfred, York, Massachusetts (District of Maine), son of Stephen Gile (1766–1847) and Joanna Thing (1763–1826).
Stephen (29) married Mercy Gowen (13) (born in December, 1806 in Waterboro, York, Massachusetts) on May 12, 1820.[1][2][3] Their children were:

- Mary Jane Gile (1827–1868)
- Ephraim Gile (1829–1852)
- Emulous Gile (1835–1894)
